Things are going well at Live Local, but a good thing can always get better, right?
I was recently approached by a grad student from Portland State University who wanted to talk to me about the educational aspect of our business. I didn’t know what he was talking about and he was shocked to hear it.
“You don’t have an educational program?!” He asked.
Paul Nagel was his name, and he is the new Educational Director at Live Local Organic. He is in charge of creating workshops, extended education for instructors, field trips for the K-12ers, and all sorts of other things. He has basically taken it upon himself to turn our Live Local Organic warehouse into an educational center for the greater Portland area.
Paul brings a lot to the table for us. Being a masters graduate in Biology, he brings a lot of the technical expertise to areas where I had only the “know how,” but not the “why.” Some of the things he is planning on teaching include:
How to build your own aquaponics system
Integration of Black Soldier Flies for waste management and supplemental feed for the fish
Integrated Pest Management
and much more. I couldn’t be more excited for whats to come. There will be a page dedicated to education on our website, livelocalorganic.com, in the near future. If you or someone you know is interested in checking out what we have to offer, wait for the page to be up or give me a call. My contact info is on our website as well.
As always, remember to Live Local and support local business!
P.S. We are now in 11/15 of the New Seasons stores, along with 2 Food Front Cooperative Grocery stores. Make sure to check us out and try our basil; we have had nothing but good reviews about it!!
